Insulation Standard Sizes Application Thermal Class
EPDM 18 to 4/0 EPDM is naturally corona resistant and more heat resistant than any other rubber compounds and is able to take the long bake cycles associated with the larger jobs. EPDM has superior weather resistance and low temperature flexibility. EPDM is used in many high voltage applications. UL style 3499. EPDM also has better cut-through resistance than silicone rubber, which it replaces in some applications. 150°C
Hermetic 16 to 2 Combination of polyester fibers and polyester film insulation offers an improved wire for use in refrigerants. Suitable for Class B applications. Contains low extractables for use in hermetically sealed motors. UL 5170 listed excluding 2.0 awg. 125°C
Hypalon 18 to 4/0 Long time industry standard suitable for use in class B systems. Excellent heat resistance, colour stability and electrical properties. Good flexibility. UL and CSA listed. Rated 5000 volt. 105°C
Neoprene 18 to 2/0 Neoprene insulation has good heat aging characteristics and is an excellent low cost motor lead wire. It may be considered for use in hazardous locations and is being used in explosion proof motors recognized by UL. 12 awg and smaller sizes are dual labeled UL and CSA. Meets VW-1 vertical flame test. 90°C
PVC 24 to 6 Vinyl plastic insulation is fast stripping, resists oil, solvents and ozone. The colours are bright and remain distinct after process. Applications include motors, transformers, fluorescent ballasts and fixtures, switchboard panels, controls, rectifiers and electronic circuits. Meets VW-1 vertical flame test. 105°C
Silicone Rubber Braidless 22 to 1/0 The silicone insulation features easy and clean stripping without the problems associated with glass braid lead wire. It has excellent physical and mechanical strength properties. Recommended for high temperature applications for motors, lighting fixtures, appliances and electronic devices. 150°C
Silicone Rubber Glass Braid 18 to 4/0 The silicone insulation strips clean and easily while the glass braid provides additional abrasion resistance and is treated to resist fraying. Suitable for Class H systems. UL and CSA listed. Meets the VW-1 vertical flame test. 200°C
Teflon® 24 to 16 Teflon® is fluorinated thermoplastic with outstanding thermal, physical and electrical properties. Teflon® wire products are highly recommended for miniature cable applications because of its superior thermal and electrical properties. Teflon® is especially suitable for internal wiring-soldering applications where insulation melt back is a specific problem. 200°C
Cross-linked Polyethylene 22 to 6 This insulation is applied in a single extrusion. This construction has excellent thermal aging characteristics, moisture resistance and solvent resistance. It provides an economic alternative to Hypalon where extreme flexibility is not required. Recommended for Class B motor leads. Because of its excellent physical and electrical properties, it is highly desirable for a wide variety of applications. 125°C
